Toigo Fellowship Gives Minority MBAs Unmatched Access to Career Opportunities, Mentors, Networks in the Field of Finance
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) February 27, 2008 -- Fellowship applications with the Robert Toigo Foundation, the premiere organization supporting minority graduate students committed to careers in finance, are now being accepted online through March 10, 2008. First and second year MBA students, as well as candidates pursuing JD/MBAs, Masters in Financial Engineering (MFE) or a Masters in Real Estate are eligible to apply. With its mission to "change the face of finance," the Toigo Foundation supports exceptional minorities through leadership development, mentoring and merit-based awards as they earn their graduate degrees, launch their finance careers, and mature into finance industry leaders.
"As a young professional and newly minted MBA entering the workforce, being a part of the Toigo network is a tremendous springboard," said Nancy Sims, president of the Toigo Foundation. "The Foundation provides unmatched networking opportunities, career services and leadership development that begins before Fellows enter their graduate programs and continues throughout their entire careers in finance."
Become a Fellow -- Realize a Lifetime of Returns Each year, Toigo selects a class of MBA and finance graduate candidates based on their commitment to building a career in finance, leadership potential and commitment to give back to the community. Last year, more than 250 students applied; 57 students were named 2007 Fellows.
One of the greatest benefits to becoming a Toigo Fellow is access to the Foundation's 700+ alumni network and its sponsor base of top finance firms, investment firms and Fortune 500 corporations including AIG Investments, BlackRock, Capital Group Companies, Citi, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and others.
"Recruitment and retention of minority talent is a strategic priority for the finance industry," said Yvonne Hart, Associate Director, MBA Student Programming at Toigo. "Our rigorous MBA selection process and expansion to MFE and JD/MBA programs ensures that we may continue to fuel the introduction of talented and diverse professionals to the finance industry and promote the Toigo model of leadership for the future."
Once Fellows are selected, the Foundation matches each with a mentor within the finance industry and through its APEXTM leadership development program provides formal training and courses designed to address the specific challenges minority professionals face in the workplace, particularly the field of finance. Merit-based scholarship awards provide students with assistance in covering graduate tuition costs.
MBA students interested in applying for a Toigo Fellowship who have already accepted a fellowship with an investment firm that typically includes significant financial grants are still eligible to apply. If selected as a Toigo Fellow, these individuals will benefit from the Foundation's leadership and development programs, mentoring, coaching and networking opportunities but will not receive a Toigo merit-based scholarship award of support.
The Toigo Fellowship application is now available online at www.toigofoundation.org, with final applications including recommendations due by March 10, 2008. Acceptance into an MBA, JD/MBA, MFE or Masters in Real Estate program is not needed in order to apply for the Toigo Fellowship; if selected, Fellows will be required to show proof of acceptance by May 16, 2008.
